Life has been a bit crazy around here lately. What's new, right?! Well, here you go...a little over 2 weeks ago I took Callum to the doctor. I'm not one to go there often. Maybe we make it to well child visits. Maybe. If I remember to make the appointment. Anyways, Callum had been fussy--not overly fussy, but fussy for this normally very easy baby. He seemed skinnier to me, but I just figured he was lengthening out. Well, apparently he had also been losing weight. From his 6 month appointment in December to this last appointment (a little over a month in between) he had lost a pound. That's a lot when you only weigh around 15 lbs. We decided I'd work on bumping up my milk supply and continue to try solids. He's really not that into them. He'll gnaw on an apple slice and maybe suck on a peach in the mesh feeder, but that's it. He wants nothing to do with purees on a spoon. So, that means I was pumping after feedings, in between feedings, taking fenugreek and just plain nursing more often--which is fine with him. He was already adding in more feedings by sleeping less. That's the only thing I can figure out as to why he had been losing weight--he just slept so well and my supply just dropped. 13 hours straight at night and 2 long naps a day. I couldn't fit in more feedings without waking him, which is what I started to do at night. Now he is gaining weight again, my milk supply is coming back and he's starting to sleep better. That is, after we got some medicine for his ear infection. Yep, that's right. A week ago the 4 kids and I were knocked out with this nasty cough/cold. It worsened over the weekend and Sunday night was awful. Callum was absolutely miserable and slept horribly. Monday Scott stayed home, I took Callum to urgent care and we saw our normal doctor there. She found an ear infection and promptly gave me a prescription. I would normally hold off on antibiotics and she is fine with that, but this time she didn't want to wait and watch it. That's fine...with in minutes of prescription and ibuprofen for the pain, he was in a much better mood. Maddox also had an ear infection, so meds for him and we're all on the mend. I'm praying we're all better in the next few days and that Scott stays healthy. Then, if we can get Callum sleeping better at night again, all will be good.
Anyways, that's what we've been up to lately--losing weight, gaining weight, getting sick and getting healthy, along with lots of playing. It is amazing how much energy kids still have when they are sick!
